How to dress like you know what ‘cottagecore’ is

We’re not about one hit wonders. Sure, the collar is somewhat inescapable right now, but for good reason – it’s a rediscovered gem. This is a relatively low-risk investment that offers rewards for seasons to come. Here’s why you should add it to your portfolio.

Sorry, what?

You may have seen the term ‘cottagecore’ being referenced on Insta, and this is how to look like you know what it is, without Googling it (it’s an internet trend idealising a ‘rural’ aesthetic and artisanal vibes, BTW). There’s no denying the popularity of massive, crafty collars, but this is one style we see sticking around for a fair bit – so it’s definitely worth finding the right one for you. Plus, they are immensely flattering on your face – something about the contrast at your neck creates a gorgeous little frame for your jawline. Who knew?

Well, you can enjoy this peekaboo look with plenty more than jumpers. Dungarees are a great choice (gives them a chance to feel a bit fancier, too). Collars also come in knit form, which means no layering needed. Pair with denim to stop it all feeling too twee (unless that’s what you’re aiming for, in which case feel free to really go for it).
