Check your purchase carefully before you wear it - it wasn't until I got to the station that I discovered the hem was undone in three-quarters of the length. Having a nice bright coloured ribbon on the edging only made this more obvious. Purhcase of needle, thread and 20 minutes hiding in the lavatory later this garment is now fit for purpose. The sizing is also rather odd as I would need an extra 2 inches on my bust to fill it properly (I am a size ten). But if that was the case, it's unlikely that the empire-line style would fit under the bust.

I bought the blue one first - and just loved the colour as soon as it came of the packet - the colours sing without being garish- then I bought the black heritage rose which is more black than grey as on my monitor at home - I suppose the clue's in the name now I think about it!
I find both dresses look really great with wooly tights and lace up ankle boots for work or meeting friends for tea. I am a size 12 with a 32F bust and I think you would need something up top to fill it out as there are gathers there- I am a kind of hour glass so certainly don't have any problems filling it out beneath the waistline but it isn't tight - just comfy. The frills round the neckline need arranging if you are wearing a cardigan - but hey girls - it only takes a minute and then sits just right.

I hesitated for months about ordering this dress (I flashed on it as soon as I saw it!), but was firstly put off by the price and dry-cleaning only. Then there were the mixed reviews...even at the great sale price I hesitated still. And then thought at that great price I didn't have much to lose. I wanted the fig colour really but didn't have a cardi to go with it (so it can be worn in spring/autumn and winter) so i ordered the black heritage rose in my usual 12 L - it comes to just below the knee and I'm 5ft 6 (I'm fairly broad shouldered and have a 36B bust, if there's stretch in the item I can wear a Boden 10, if not definitely 12). It's fitted on the top, high neckline so good for winter (as opposed to a wrap-style dress). Beneath the waistline (high) it skims the hips. I find it perfectly balanced between the top and the bottom, maybe the other reviewers were slim hipped....I'm more or less an hour-glass shape size 10/12 in Boden. Maybe slightly itchy. Wish I'd ordered months ago, I'm keeping my eyes out for another 12L in another colour! So if anyone is still hesitating like me, I would say go for it. It came yesterday and I'm wearing it this afternoon to a friend's coffee afternoon, it feels cute, cosy and a bit sexy all at the same time....(with a cosy cardi on top)

I bought the ruby painted in 12L - I like the colour and print which is true to the pictures. I also really like the shape of the bodice where the fit is true to size. The dress sits at a nice length just on the low knee (even when sitting down). However, it is comfy to wear (slightly itchy, but not enough to make it bothersome in my opinion).

However, although I am a bit more bottom heavy than top heavy, the dress is a too roomy below the waist band, so the result is a bit extra fabric hanging at the back. However, a 10 would be too tight on the bodice for me. Therefore, I might take it in using the darts that are present already but it might spoil the appearance at the front and the comfort level when sitting down. Undecided.

I wore it to show my mum and gran who both loved it and told me to keep it!

Great price in the sale!

Beautiful rose prints and lovely pattern. I am in between 10 and 12R, tried both, none fitted well!!0 was a bit tight on the waist, difficult to take off! 12 made me look very frumpy... Too many pleats/ material at the neck, not flattering for full figures. With a heavy heart I had to return. Would be better suited to a slim rather than curvy body..

Loved the colour, generous size but smart and comfortable for work. The only problem is the fabric is itchy - so much so I am in two minds about trying to get it re-lined with a more substantial lining material because otherwise I'm not sure I'll get the wear out of it that it deserves.

Bought this dress in the sale and I'm really pleased with it. I am a curvy size 10 but it fits well and has room everywhere. A small size 10 should try an 8 perhaps. The fabric is lovely and should be warm enough to stand the cooler weather. The pleated frill around the neck is really pretty. I am going to wear it to my husband's graduation with the black velvet jacket but it would be suitable for a wedding or for someone who has to look very smart for work. A complete bargain in the sale!

I am experimenting with dresses for work (as I usually live in trousers) and this fits the bill perfectly. The blue print is gorgeous, it goes great with the chiffon edged cardi, and I've ordered the black one too (please please please have some stock left!) I initially ordered a 12r as my proportions are all over the place, however it was huge and unflattering on and stopped at the wrong point on my knee (am 5'5", long bod short legs). I took a punt on the 10L and it's marvellous!

I was really pleased to have got this as I saw the stock was low (Fig). However I had forgotten that my other Boden shift dress is a Regular and the Long was just a frumpy just below knee length on me (5'8") so sadly it will go back. Rose design is beautiful. Material was not what I would have classed as wool crepe - a bit "rougher" than that.

I love this dress, I now have it in two colours, the blue one arrived today and it is much nicer than on the web. I am a standard size 14 and it fits me fine, it comes just below the knee, I am 5'6" and I ordered the long length. I don't agree that there is too much material below the waist, when I sit down there is none of that embarrassing having to keep tugging down the hem which usually occurs so I would say it it just right. I can see I will be getting a lot of wear from this lovely item, usual superb Boden quality too.
