I ordered the 10L in the grape initially and although I loved it, it just clung a bit too tightly around my hips so when the 12L came available I bought that, although in black, and returned the grape. I prefer the colour of the grape as it was a lovely rich colour, but the fit of the black in a 12L is better for me. Very comfortable and can be dressed up or down, and of course with it being merino it's fabulously warm in this cold winter weather. And the top is no way see through in my opinion on either colour as long as you wear appropriate underwear. A great buy.

for the record- the top is not really see through unless of course you wear a white bra with a dark coloured dress ! with the appropriate underwear on this dress is great ! and very versatile !

I am attracted to Boden for bright colours and prints but I went to four funerals in 2011 and noted a gap in my wardrobe for a black dress. This is nearly perfect - could be an inch or two longer to cover (rather than reach) my knees but I am v tall. Also large of bust but otherwise slim, and this works fine; the empire line sits under my bust (not always the case). The shape is pretty and flattering, skirt part is kind of bell shaped. Feels very good quality; a heavier and smoother knit than a similar-shaped wool dress from Boden I had in the past and definitely bigger - I really am not a size 10. The unlined top part doesn't seem transparent to me. Will take better care of ths so the moths don't get to it (they do seem to love merino wool). A completely guilt-free sale purchase and total bargain. If I needed to be this smart for work I'd snap it up in another colour.

I bought the grape coloured dress in the sale, I thought the colour was beautiful and the cut very flattering. I was a bit worried having read the reviews about the top being a bit transparent but I found it to be fine, sure you can get a bit of a glimpse of bra through the top but nothing that i felt was inappropriate or overly obvious. It would be nicer if the entire dress was lined and far more in keeping with the qulity we expect from Boden.

I read all the reviews so I knew that the top half was going to be unlined, and probably see-though in certain lights. I also knew that the green was going to very different to the colour shown on the website. In fact, I wanted a different green, I was hoping for a colour nearer the leaf waterfall cardigan and I was very pleased with the colour when it came.

The wool of this dress is lovely and light, but it feels very warm too. I tried it on and I didn't want to take it off; it felt so comfortable. It has a smoother look to it than the other knit dresses; not so "woolly". Almost the look of a jersey knit dress.

I'm 5 ft tall and was expecting this to be well below my knees (and probably frumpy) but it actually sat on my knee and didn't look frumpy at all.

My only negative is the top. For two reasons; As so many people have mentioned, it's unlined which means that it's see-through. Although a camisole will sort this out and it didn't stop me buying it, it's surprising for Boden. Secondly, the scoop is very low and if I pull it up any higher, the empire line band sits on my bust, not under it. Another reason to wear a camisole.

Ordered the Black 'Long' version to cover my knees which it did perfectly, I am 5'6...
Wore it on Christmas day with patent shoes and since with tan long boots. A fabulous wardrobe classic, thank you.
Ps; wasn't see through at the top ( much to Husbands disappointment)!

I am a big fan of Boden's lined wool dresses. However this was a big disappointment. The fabirc quality and overall appearance is great but when I put it on it was clear there is a big disparity between the top and bottom in terms of fit. The dress lies well around the bust. However, there is a waist on this dress which is neither empire line or anywhere near my waist. THis gives an odd look which is further compounded by the gathers on the skirt. It seems that there is way too much fabric in the skirt part. This means the dress billows out over my stomach and bottom - emphasising all my lumps and bumps rather than skimming them. I was expecting this dress to be knee length but found it to be way too long -- a good 3" below the knee. It looks great on a hanger but makes me look very frumpy

This dress is gorgeous, BUT like so many other reviewers have noted it shows off your bra!! From the empire line down I cannot find fault with the dress. It sits perfectly, for those with a few bumps around the belly it covers these perfectly and really was the most perfect fit. However, having spent that much on a dress I don't want to run the shape by having to wear a vest underneath so that it covers my bra, so with regret its on its way back.

The dress fits perfectly, it's elegant and comfortable at the same time. The cadet blue is a very nice colour, and the wool soft. The only defect (hence the 4 starts) is that, as others have noted, the top is not lined and is quite thin so you can see the bra through it. I don't expect that with a dress of this quality (and price).
